We're still having problems uploading images to the Web site, so our continued apologies that there have been no new photos for a really long time. The good news is, we can still give you written updates, and we'll work to find a solution for the picture issue in the interim.
It's another quiet Sunday afternoon. There are light flurries falling from the sky over Minn...read full entry Date: Tuesday, October 28, 2008
Well, it must be almost Halloween because we've had our first snowfall of the year in Minnesota, on a blustery Sunday that found the Fawcett family of Plymouth spending the day in our pajamas (yes, all of us) watching football, reading kids' books and enjoying each other's company. The downside to our large wall of windows in the family room was the fact that we could watch the ...read full entry

Thanks, all, for staying tuned during our down time. We are now up and active again. We'll get some pictures posted of our new house and the kids -- as well as the album from back on the 25th of August -- soon. In the meantime, just wanted to let you know that we are all well. We are enjoying the joys of learning our new house in Plymouth, Shane FINALLY got to jump in the pool, and Cooper lo...read full entry

We arrived home from a very hot and steamy weekend in Florida for a friend's wedding and a quick visit with Auntie Katie and Uncle Eric, and as we were unpacking, Cooper walked up to Rebekah and said, "Bathroom. Potty." So, Shane asked if Cooper wanted to go potty in the toilet and Cooper said yes -- and the pair set off for Cooper to successfully make his first trip to the big-boy...read full entry

There have been lots of opportunities for learning and enjoying the kids the past few weeks, and it is amazing how quickly you figure out babies’ tendencies and toddlers’ take-it-at-face-value beliefs.

We need to go back and correct all those teachers we had growing up who said that 2+2 equals four. As near as we can tell, two parents plus two kids (under the age of 2, no less) creates a sum much greater than its individual parts. We seem to be getting the hang of dividing and conquering (Shane gets Cooper, Rebekah gets Sam; or Rebekah does laundry or makes dinner while Shane snuggles bot...read full entry

We arrived home from the hospital yesterday morning with Samara -- with bright sun, flowers waiting at the back door and the sense that we were as rested as we could be to start our new adventure. It was a much different feeling from the day we brought Cooper home (cold, windy, snowing ... and exhausted!). Both, of course, are blessings in their own way ... but we definitely preferred the sunny,...read full entry

We'd say, "the countdown begins," but truth-be-told, Rebekah's been looking forward to the birth of this baby since pretty much the second she found out she was pregnant. She's weathering the last few days. Cooper remains totally oblivious to the whole situation and has lost interest in "kissing the baby" in Mama's belly. He's too busy running laps around ...read full entry

Taking a quick glance at the calendar, we have realized that we are less than three months away from Baby No. 2 -- in fact, Rebekah is due in less than 12 weeks. Cooper still has no clue what's coming, which is probably a good thing considering the week he had. We all have been sick on and off since the start of the new year. Colds, flu-like viruses, stomach issues. Ick. Cooper got hit ...read full entry

I apologize in advance if there are spelling errors, grammatical mistakes and any other myriad of issues that would normally be top of mind but tonight, honestly, couldn't care less about. Sorry it's been a while, folks. Life has been a whirlwind here lately -- a whirlwind that leaves us exhausted and in bed the second Cooper hits the hay himself. Thankfully, that time has become more steady (9 p.m.) and usually lasts most of the night.
In the last six weeks, Cooper has learned quite a bit. In addition to his expanding word repertoire (we admit that most of the &qu...read full entry Date: Wednesday, October 10, 2007
One year of parenthood is in the books, and by all accounts, it appears that we're settling into the role pretty well. Cooper is growing (75th percentile for height and 50th for weight at his checkup yesterday!), healthy and happy. He is learning so fast and keeps us in stitches. He is saying several words now -- kitty cat, puppy, up, mama, daddy (usually in a phrase of, "Hi, Dad")...read full entry

Cooper has rounded the 10-month mark and is nearing his one-year birthday. He apparently has a lot he wants to accomplish before hitting the milestone. After mastering the art of climbing the couch, he has decided the next best thing is to push the pillows on the floor and roll over onto them head first, repeatedly. He also likes to climb on the rocking chair and rock in it, standing. If he'...read full entry

Cooper had a week off of daycare, and Grandma Jan and Grandpa Cecil volunteered to babysit, so Shane and I packed up the car and headed to Chicago for a few days of "just us" time. It's been hot and humid in Minnesota, but all is well. Cooper sprouted his first tooth and aside from a slightly bipolar weekend (I'm HAPPY! Cooper is into everything now that he is mobile. He continues to love to crawl toward everything he's not supposed to, including the basement, fireplace, DVD player and power cords. We have noticed lately that when Cooper gets really excited about something (food, DVD's, bath time, etc.), he starts to shake. Not convulse shake, but just get so excited he quivers a little. You may know that food is a great way to fuel the body. You may not know that it also can be used as a styling gel, an exfoliant, hand lotion, interior decoration, chair covering ... last night, Cooper was so worked up over dinner that he was rubbing his fruit and cereal combo platter in his hair (well, what hair he has, anyway), his eyes, his ears. Rebekah was in Chicago for a business trip last week, and Cooper took the opportunity to start saying, 'Ma ma ma ma ma.' Cooper sailed through his six-month doctor's visit today, but not without creaming his diaper in the waiting room and managing to blow everything out the back, sides and ... yes, folks ... even socks. After three straight successful attempts at sleeping through the night, Cooper has decided it’s high time to pick up a new skill. And this week, there are actually two new skills. The first, he likes to grab his toes and pull his feet up. This is especially helpful when you’re changing his diaper, as he doesn’t fight you as much to get his legs in the right place. The second, he can make noise. Ca...read full entry

Plans seem to be a thing of the past now that there is a baby in the house. For instance, I was PLANNING to get some sleep this week, but Cooper decided that it'd fun to not sleep through the night ANY nights this past week. The NCAA tournament has started, and we spend a lot of time watching the games these days. Cooper is mesmorized by hoops action. It is a white, winter wonderland out there. Shane has shoveled three times now, and figures we've probably had about eight to 10 inches. We're halfway through the Saturday on the final weekend in February, patiently awaiting our first winter snowstorm of the season. So far, we've had only sleet and a dusting of snow. The local newspaper in Minneapolis says that we shouldn't 'plan a picnic' for Sunday because the worst is yet to come, but most Minnesotans are skeptical. We'll see if that foot of snow really is going to come down. In...read full entry

Cooper is four months old today, and he's changing so quickly. A month ago, he was taking in the world mostly with his eyes. Today, he's grabbing things, talking, kicking, CONSTANTLY moving, and discovering that everything is just a little bit better if you can put it in your mouth. Babyproofing the house is not far off. Week two of being back to work and having Cooper in daycare -- week two of Shane and I both being sick. Last week, it was head colds. This week, it's the stomach flu. This kid has got the best comedic timing. Today, Shane brought him into my office so my co-workers could meet him, and as I was holding him, he started to cry. Shane came over to hold him, and the minute I handed him back, Cooper calmed down. This, of course, made all of my co-workers laugh. The other funny-man moment came during the weekend. I have officially survived my first day of working outside of the home, and I didn't need to bring Cooper into the office with me and have him sit by my desk and coo so I could function. Dear Mother: I have been informed that you intend to return to work next week. It would appear you have forgotten the terms agreed to in our Baby/Mommy Contract, which was ratified the week after my birth. In it, you may recall there is a Perceived Impending Abandonment Clause. Ladies and gentlemen ... we have Christmas cards, complete with an adorable (in my humble opinion) picture of Cooper and a holiday letter. All we need to do is address, stamp and mail the cards. Cooper is fascinated with mouths. He will just stare at your lips, transfixed as they make different shapes. His favorites appear to be the 'Oh,' 'Ooo' and 'Ah' shapes. His other favorite 'word' is 'Goo.' ...read full entry

When I was growing up in Wisconsin, we always celebrated St. Nick's Day, which was a day in early December when we woke up to find our Christmas stockings stuffed with candy, toys and other goodies. After eight weeks of having my only real exercise be walking aimlessly around the mall, I decided today that I should take advantage of Cooper's new-found love of the Baby Bjorn.
